The performance kernlos begins where human perception reaches its limits: with bacteria. Single-celled and without a nucleus, they are among the oldest life forms on Earth. They existed long before us, inhabit our bodies, and remain after us - as part of processes of decomposition, transformation, and return.
Four bacterial entities move through the Badeschiff at the Danube Canal, following these invisible processes. Just as bacteria are not unambiguous and exist in constant interaction with one another, the site itself is not neutral: at Salzgries, salt was once brought into the city; nearby lies Morzinplatz, a place marked by a heavy and dark history. In April 1945, the bridges over the Danube Canal were blown up. In 1949, the tightrope walker Eisemann crossed the canal on a high wire, carrying his daughter Rosina on his shoulders; the act ended tragically.
In the water, these traces continue. Myths, voices, waste, and memories accumulate. kernlos asks what remains of us - and what carries it forward.
The performance took place as part of the program “Solutions & Strategies” of the Klima Biennale Wien.
